Worry or Trust? It's Your Choice by Becky Willeford
In my mind I see two different people. The one stays rattled, is always upset about something, cannot think straight and is so nervous she would almost make you nervous just watching her. The other is cool, calm, collected, going through life not stressing out over things out of her control, very peaceful and confident about her life. I ask you today, which person are you? Do you stay stressed out? Do you let things upset you easily? Are you nervous about the situations you are facing? Or are you cool, calm and collected? Do you have a peaceful spirit about you? The difference between these two people is the choice they’ve made. One has chosen to worry and the other has chosen to trust.
Proverbs 3:5 tells us to, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” Trust simply means a firm belief in one’s reliability. The Bible tells us we should trust in the Lord. Trusting in God with all our heart is the opposite of doubting God and His Word. It is the basis of our relationship with God. Our trust is based on the promise that God is trustworthy. We can be assured that God loves us and will faithfully take care of us. Matthew tells us he has the hairs numbered. With a God like that why should we worry?
Our trust in God grows as we mature in our walk with Him. I can remember the Lord providing groceries on our porch out of the blue when my Dad was out of work. I was just a kid so that really made an impression on me. I also remember an experience of trusting in God when I was a new student in Bible school. I needed a book and had no money. I really didn’t want to call home and ask my Dad for the money so I prayed. It wasn’t a very expensive book, four dollars and fifty cents to be exact. But when you are 1,000 miles away from home and have no money, it may as well have been $100. I’ll never forget the day I went to my mailbox and pulled out a letter from my brother. He had sent me five dollars for no reason. Thank God. I paid my tithes and had just exactly enough to buy the book. God was showing me that He would be with me and take care of me, that I didn’t have to worry about a thing. From that experience, my trust in God has grown.
When you stop to think about it, it’s pretty awesome that the God who made the universe is concerned enough about us to take care of all our needs. Paul confirms this in Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” All my need includes material and spiritual needs. I heard a preacher say you can’t trust God when you’re worrying and you can’t worry when you’re trusting God.
It is so wonderful to have a God that I can trust my life to. I don’t have to make decisions; He is there to direct me as to what I should do if I trust Him. I don’t have to worry, He has promised to take care of me. He will take the worry out of my life if I will only trust Him. It really is that simple. Only trust Him.
So what is it? Will you choose to worry or will you choose to trust? It’s your choice.
