New Year - New Hope

2009. We're already almost 2 weeks into it. The glow of the holidays has worn off. If you live anywhere near me, there's over a foot of snow on the ground and it's still coming down. The nights are long and quiet. The mornings are dark and dreary. It's the time of year the sun wakes up late and goes to bed early.

There's something about the strange stillness of a Winter morning. We look out the window and see nothing but cold lifelessness. And yet, hope stirs deep within us because we know Spring is coming. We've learned not to take the biting wind, and the icy roads too seriously. We've experienced the seasons before and we know that the snow eventuall melts. And Spring will soon arrive.

And so it is with each New Year.

Maybe 2008 wasn't such a great year for you. Maybe you had more than your fair share of dark and dreary days. And yet, hope bursts forth as 2008 melts away and 2009 takes hold. What will this year bring? What do you long for? What do you want Jesus to do for you?

Just ask Him.

I did.

On January 1, 2009 I  wrote a one sentence prayer request for each member of my family  in my  Prayer Notebook. Next to my mother's name I wrote "That I would hear from her in a healthy way". (I have been estranged from my mother for over 2 years). As my husband and I  were having our morning coffee on New Years Day, I told him about my request. He knows the situtation in detail and tried to encourage me not to be disappointed if it didn't happen just like I'd asked. I nodded, we chatted a bit more and went about our day. Two hours later, the phone rang and it was my mother! Trust me this was a miracle straight from God. Only, HE could have orchastrated such a thing.
Spring had come!

What about you? What spiritual Springtimes do you need from Jesus this year? Ask Him. Write it down. Tell a friend.  Do it, and your Spring will come sooner than you think!
